Artist’s Statement

I create impressionistic coastal paintings in oil that centre on gentle water, warm sunlight, and anchoring structures such as boats, jetties, and rockpools.

I paint these elements because my inner world has been shaped by loss, movement, and overwhelm — and water, light, and structure became the anchors that steadied me through life’s transitions.

My work is for viewers seeking sanctuary and stability: those drawn to quiet, restorative environments that offer warmth, calmness, and a sense of being gently held.


My Story

Hi there — I’m Tash, a coastal landscape painter from Sydney’s South.

I grew up in Coffs Harbour, where the coastline shaped my earliest memories and taught me to feel deeply connected to water, light, and nature. As a child, I was always creating — building cubbies, making things with my hands, and exploring the world around me with curiosity.

In high school, I was told there was no future in art and encouraged to focus on maths and science instead. So I followed the sensible path, not the true one. It wasn’t until my early 30s that I picked up a brush again. With daily practice, patience, and trust in my own two hands, I returned to what had always made me feel grounded and at peace.

My love for nature runs deep. It was nurtured on bush walks with my dad and in the muddy joy of childhood afternoons spent exploring creeks and rain-fed pools with my neighbour. We’d rescue tadpoles from drying puddles, carry them home in buckets, and raise them until they grew legs and hopped away. Those moments taught me to notice the small things — to care, to protect, and to honour the quiet places where life gathers.

Today, when I’m not painting, you’ll find me kayaking along lakes, hiking in the mountains, or snorkelling through the turquoise waters of NSW — always returning to the elements that steady me.
